AH 111 Introduction to Emergency Medical Services- 1 credit
This course will prepare the student with all of the individual certifications which are needed for all of the following EMS courses. These are certificates which are required by the state and also most EMS agencies. REQUIRED
AH 211 Emergency Medical Responder- 2 credits
The course prepares the EMR student to provide basic medical careand first aid as a first responder, who will likely be the first on sceneto an emergency. This course is aligned with the National Education Standards for EMR as approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Students will learn basic anatomy and physiology, assessment skills, bandaging and splinting, and patient stabilization.
The course will include classroom sessions, online lectures, and
skills labs. Special emphasis will be given to providing basic care in a third-world environment. This course requires AH 111.
This course has been approved by the Pennsylvania
Department of Health as meeting the educational course
requirement that an applicant for certification as an Emergency
Medical Responder needs to satisfy to be certified by the
Pennsylvania Department of Health as an EMR. REQUIRED
AH 312 Emergency Medical Technician- 4 credits
The course prepares the EMT student to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMTs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting, and providing patient transportation. Special emphasis will be given to working in a third-world environment.
This course has prerequisites, including AH-211.
This course has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as meeting the educational course requirement that an applicant for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician needs to satisfy to be certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an EMT. REQUIRED
AH 322 EMT Instructor- 2 credits
This course has been designed and developed in accordance with the DOT/NHTSA 2002 National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructor and the National Education Standards. This course will allow you to become a certified EMS Instructor in the state of Pennsylvania. ELECTIVE
AH 332 Advanced Emergency Medical Technician- 5 credits
The course prepares the AEMT student to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients. This course is aligned with the National Education Standards for AEMT as approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Students will learn advanced airway skills, IV therapy, medication administration, and pharmacology. The course will include classroom sessions, skill labs, and required clinical rotations. Special emphasis will be given to providing advanced care in a third-world environment. This course has prerequisites, including AH 312, and must be followed by AH 334.

AH334 Advanced EMT Practicum- 3 credits
The Field Practicum serves as the final assessment of AEMT education, ensuring that the student possesses the necessary cognitive and psychomotor skills to take on the role of Team Leader in patient care. Responsibilities of the Team Leader are assigned through direct observation and guided by a qualified preceptor who is both licensed and credentialed to operate within an accredited EMS system. This evaluation measures the student’s capability to perform as a competent entry-level AEMT and represents the last chance to pinpoint areas requiring improvement before the student qualifies for AEMT certification. REQUIRED
AH 341 Introduction to Intercultural Healthcare- 3 credits
This course provides an introduction to healthcare from a global perspective. The course will primarily address five key questions: What are the causes of illness, disability, and mortality? What leads to these health issues? Which populations are most affected? Why is it important for us to be concerned about these matters? What actionable strategies can be implemented to tackle significant health challenges in an efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable manner? While the course will have a global perspective, it will particularly emphasize low- and middle-income nations, the health of impoverished communities, and health inequities. Ongoing attention will be directed towards health systems, the connections between health and development, and global interdependence concerning health issues. REQUIRED
